Dr. Jan Simek spent the majority of his 35-year teaching career at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he received the university's Distinguished Teaching Award. Albion College, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Kalamazoo College, and the University of California at Berkeley are among her other teaching stops. He has industrial experience investigating dyes, surfactants, and liquid crystals, in addition to his pharmaceutical research, and he continues to consult for the biotechnology industry.

Dr. Leroy G. Wade (L. G Wade) graduated with a B.A. from Rice University in 1969 and later enrolled at Harvard University, where he conducted research under the supervision of Professor James D. White. He was heavily influenced by the teaching strategies of two outstanding educators, Professors Leonard K. Nash and Frank H. Westheimer, while working as the Head Teaching Fellow for the organic laboratories at Harvard.
Dr. Wade became a member of the Colorado State University chemistry faculty in 1974 after earning his Ph.D. at Harvard. Dr. Wade taught organic chemistry to thousands of students at Colorado State over the course of fifteen years who were pursuing careers in biology, chemistry, human medicine, veterinary medicine, and environmental studies.

Dr. Wade has been teaching organic chemistry at Whitman College since 1989. He also pursues interests in organic synthesis and forensic chemistry. The A.E. Lange Award for Distinguished Science Teaching at Whitman College was given to Dr. Wade in 19
